For those still planning their summer vacation, the good news is the best deals are still to come.

The best week for Canadians to travel within a budget is Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, which aligns with 37 per cent of Canadians who believe late August is the cheapest month to fly, according to a recent report from Skyscanner.

For those looking at a September getaway, Skyscanner identified three Canadian cities where the average flight falls below $400: Prince George, B.C. ($315), Calgary ($324) and Toronto ($345).

Another way to save money while travelling is to visit a lesser-known destination. Nearly 75 per cent of Canadians would consider “off the beaten path” travel if it meant saving a few dollars.

Some lesser known locales offering cheaper travel include Kelowna (average flight price $494), Nassau, Bahamas ($557), Prague ($1,312) and Osaka, Japan ($1,451).

“Summer isn’t over, and neither is the chance to travel well for less,” Laura Lindsay, global travel trends expert at Skyscanner, said in a news release. “Our data shows that value this season comes down to two decisions: when you go and where you go. Shifting a trip by a week into early September, or looking one destination over from the obvious choice, can change what you pay without changing the holiday you wanted.”

More than half of Canadians intend to take a leisure travel vacation this summer, with 77 per cent of them planning to travel domestically, according to Leger.

Many Canadians are still boycotting U.S. travel. Just 14 per cent of Leger respondents said they are planning a U.S. vacation.

Canadians spent $3.3 billion less on travel to the U.S. in 2025 compared to 2024, according to Statistics Canada , though it has been inching higher in recent months.

Still, some U.S. cities are offering incentives to make a trip south more affordable.

Earlier this week, New York City announced it would be offering discounts to tourism and hospitality businesses for Canadians looking to travel.

The 30 per cent discounts, which are offered from Aug. 18 through Sept. 7, apply to 85 participating hotels, Broadway shows, attractions, restaurants and museums.

The state of California, Plattsburgh, N.Y., Virginia Beach, and the border cities of Washington State have all tried to woo Canadians south with discounts.

Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. is expanding significantly in Europe after agreeing to buy Polish convenience store chain Żabka Group SA for about US$8.7 billion.

Żabka is a ubiquitous presence in Poland, with around 13,000 mostly franchised shops. About 17 million people live within 500 metres of a location.

Couche-Tard already operates about 400 Circle K locations in Poland.
